Day 11 - Sailing Toward Senegal: Reflections Beneath a Restless Sea
Today was another sea day as we continued our voyage south toward Dakar, Senegal. The morning began with a noticeably choppier sea — waves rolling and rising, giving the ship a steady sway. The pool remained closed all day for safety, but by evening the waters had begun to calm again, the horizon smoothing into a gentler rhythm.
Despite the movement, I began my morning as usual — a good session in the gym, followed by a peaceful breakfast on the pool deck, basking in the warmth of the morning sun. There’s something deeply grounding about watching the sunlight dance on the waves, the endless blue stretching in every direction.
Joe enjoyed a slower start today, choosing to sleep in and, much to his regret later, missing the caviar and champagne breakfast he’s grown rather fond of! Still, a quiet morning was just what he needed after the movement of the night before.
Looking out at the vast sea, I couldn’t help but reflect on how it mirrors life itself — endless, mysterious, and far bigger than our daily routines. It’s humbling to realise that we so often skim only the surface, rarely pausing long enough to appreciate the vastness of the world, or the stillness within ourselves.
I spent part of the morning in the library, which I’m quickly falling in love with. It’s peaceful and inviting — the perfect spot to read, write, or simply gaze out to sea. I even noticed a few of my favourite board games tucked away on the shelves; now I just need to find someone willing to play them with me!
We had an early lunch so that we could attend a fascinating Kallati Tanzanite presentation, where we learned all about this exquisite blue gemstone — how it’s mined, cut, and cherished. It was both educational and inspiring, and I couldn’t help but marvel at the idea of nature creating such beauty deep within the earth.
This evening, we enjoyed early entertainment in the theatre, featuring the same talented duo from a few nights ago. Tonight’s show was a lively and nostalgic tribute to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and they were absolutely brilliant — full of energy, charisma, and those classic harmonies that had the whole audience tapping along.
Afterwards, we made our way to the Compass Rose for an early dinner, enjoying another beautifully prepared meal with the warm, friendly service we’ve come to adore. Later, Joe decided to head off to the theatre again, this time for a screening of African Cats, which he described as very moving and beautifully filmed.
I, meanwhile, enjoyed a quiet evening in our suite, writing and reflecting as the ship glided smoothly through the night. The air feels softer now, warmer — a reminder that we are steadily approaching Africa.
Tomorrow, we arrive in Dakar, and we’re both looking forward to our tour of the city and discovering a whole new rhythm of life.
Daily Reflection:
The sea reminds me of the vastness of life — calm and wild, steady and shifting.
Today I choose to flow with it, trusting that every wave carries me exactly where I need to be.
Highlight of the Day:
✨ The Frankie Valli tribute — joyful, nostalgic, and filled with the kind of music that lifts everyone’s spirits, no matter the waves outside.
