Day 19 - Storm Clouds, Sunshine & Two Minutes of Fame
Another day at sea, another chance to breathe, unwind, and find the gentle rhythm of ship life. As always, the day began with an early sunrise, painting the horizon in soft colours — before quickly disappearing behind a spread of stormy morning clouds. Even so, there is something quite magical about watching the light dance in and out of the shadows on the open ocean.
The gym was busy this morning, so I squeezed in a quick session before heading to the spa for my much-needed deep tissue massage with the lovely Leah. She truly has healing hands, and I could feel the tension slowly beginning to melt from my shoulders and neck — years of not always making myself a priority catching up with me.
And yes… I am, without question, a salesperson’s dream. I left with a couple of the products Leah recommended — but to be fair, if they help keep the knots away, then I’m calling it an investment in self-care! I will definitely be returning for another treatment soon.
This morning I proudly wore my GibSilver T-shirt, supporting the team from afar during their weekly Pizza Express coffee morning. (Apologies for the less-than-glamorous picture of me wearing it!)
After breakfast on the pool deck and my favourite veggie juice, I caught up with Joe. He’d been at the pool but had to make a quick dash indoors when an unexpected rain shower swept across the deck. These tropical weather tantrums always keep us on our toes.
The late morning drifted by gently as I caught up on my daily crossword, sudoku, and messages from the kids and friends.
We met again for a light lunch, where Joe proudly announced he had secured us a booking at Prime Seven for tomorrow night — always a treat for him.
After lunch, we attended a talk by Bill Lee titled:
“Albert Einstein Explained: How to Sound Smart at a Party.”
Joe was expecting a very different talk and was a little surprised to learn that it was actually about general relativity, spacetime, and viewing the universe through a new lens.
Unfortunately for me, Joe’s desire to sit in the front row had consequences…
Because Bill picked me to help with his demonstration!
So my two minutes of fame today involved me running around the stage with Bill, acting as part of a visual explanation of Einstein’s theories. Not quite what I expected, but certainly a memorable sea-day moment!
Dinner this evening was back at our favourite — Compass Rose — and Joe declared it one of his best meals yet, especially the fish cooked in an Asian style. I am already convinced he’s going to struggle when we return home… no more Michelin-level meals cooked for him daily!
After dinner, we just made it in time for the evening film, a documentary about Namibia, which we will be visiting later this week. It was fascinating and has made us even more excited for what’s to come.
And now, as the ship gently rocks us to sleep, it’s time to say goodnight.
Tomorrow, we dock in the beautiful island nation of São Tomé — another new adventure waiting to unfold.
Daily Reflection:
Today reminded me that rest, humour, and curiosity all have a place in a well-lived life.
Even storm clouds carry their own kind of beauty, and sometimes saying “yes” to the moment puts you onstage — literally.
Highlight of the Day:
✨ My unexpected cameo during Bill Lee’s relativity demonstration — two minutes of fame and a story I’ll be laughing about for weeks.
