Day 21 - Back on Gibraltar Time & A Glimpse Behind the Wheelhouse

We lost an hour overnight, bringing us officially back on Gibraltar time. Thankfully, I had adjusted my watch the night before — because when I woke and looked at my phone, which hadn’t updated, I had a moment of confusion thinking it was an hour earlier than it really was! A small reminder of how fluid time feels at sea.

The morning unfolded gently. I followed my familiar routine of the gym and my refreshing veggie juice, easing myself into the day with clarity and intention. Afterwards, I enjoyed a quiet stretch of time catching up on my crossword and sudoku, letting my mind settle into that peaceful sea-day rhythm.

Joe went to listen to the guest speaker, who was giving a talk about the sea connections we are passing through — including, wonderfully, both Gibraltar and the Cape of Good Hope. He really enjoyed it and found the historical and geographical insights fascinating.

We had lunch at Compass Rose, always a highlight, and then Joe went back to the suite for a snooze, as his back was troubling him again. The weather was windy and cloudy, though still perfectly warm, and the seas were quite choppy as we continued sailing toward Namibia, so he wasn’t keen on sitting out on deck.

A Visit to the Bridge

This afternoon, we had the special privilege of being invited to visit the Bridge with the Captain and his officers. It was truly fascinating.

To stand in the heart of the ship’s navigation — watching the instruments, the maps, the radar systems, the coordination — gave us a whole new appreciation for the expertise behind this voyage. There is an entire team tirelessly working behind the scenes to keep us safe, comfortable, and on course. It felt both humbling and reassuring to see the professionalism and dedication firsthand.

An Evening of Music & Glamour

In the early evening, we headed to the theatre to watch the Navigator Production Team perform their tribute to Ian Fleming. The show was spectacular — a delicious blend of Bond-style glamour complete with music, storytelling, slick dancing and fabulous costumes. A truly joyful performance that left the whole audience buzzing.

Afterwards, we decided on an early dinner at the Italian restaurant, enjoying a relaxed and delicious meal before heading back to our suite for a quiet early night — exactly what we both needed as the ship continues its southward journey. We also received our certificates from yesterday.

Tomorrow, another day of adventure awaits as we inch closer to Namibia’s dramatic coastline.

Daily Reflection:

Today I felt grateful for the invisible hands guiding us — the crew, the officers, the rhythms of the sea itself.
Life flows so much more easily when we remember how many people contribute to the journeys we take.

Highlight of the Day:
Standing on the Bridge, seeing the Captain and his team at work — a rare glimpse into the heart of the ship and the skill required to guide us safely across the ocean.
