Day 6 - Agadir: Sunshine, Serenity, and a Warm Moroccan Welcome

We arrived in Agadir at 10:30 a.m. to a truly heartwarming scene. The port was alive with music, colour, and movement — a lively welcoming committee had gathered, complete with traditional entertainment and dancing. From our balcony, we had the most perfect view, watching as the rhythms of Morocco filled the air. It was a joyful and spirited start to the day.

Before the sun had even risen, I was already up — eager to make the most of the quiet early hours. I began the morning with a gym session, followed by a visit to the spa, embracing this time for myself as a sacred ritual of self-care. There’s something so peaceful about moving through the ship while it’s still dark, with only the hum of the ocean for company.

Joe, on the other hand, was ready for adventure. He set off to explore Agadir, heading into town and eventually finding the beautiful crescent-shaped beach that the city is famous for. I have a feeling this will be the first of many beaches he’ll visit over the coming weeks! His knowledge of French came in very handy, as many of the locals spoke little English, and he was able to enjoy warm and easy conversations along the way.

Although he’d hoped for a swim, Joe was advised not to leave his belongings unattended on the beach, so he settled instead for a relaxed seaside stroll and a delicious tagine at a local restaurant overlooking the water.

Meanwhile, I enjoyed a few blissful hours on deck, reading and relaxing in the sunshine. With most passengers out on tours, the ship was wonderfully quiet — just the sea breeze, the gentle movement of the waves, and time to simply be.

When Joe returned later in the afternoon, he headed up to the pool area for a few hours and met some lovely fellow travellers to chat with. Unfortunately, his back has been playing up today, but thankfully the medication kicked in, and by the evening he was feeling much better.

We had hoped to dine at the Italian restaurant, but it was fully booked, so we returned instead to our favourite — the Compass Rose. The food, as always, was delicious, and the service as impeccable and warm as ever. There’s something deeply comforting about ending the day in familiar surroundings, savouring another exquisite meal as the ocean stretches endlessly beyond the windows.

Tonight, we’ll lose an hour as we adjust our clocks while sailing towards Lanzarote — a place that already promises sunshine, volcanic beauty, and the joy of reuniting with Cousin Joe and family.

Daily Reflection:

Today I felt grateful for the gift of stillness — for peaceful hours to rest, reflect, and be present.
I am reminded that not every adventure happens ashore; some unfold quietly within.

Highlight of the Day:
Watching the vibrant welcome celebration from our balcony as the music and dancing filled the air — a joyful reminder of how beautiful human connection can be.
