Day 36 - A Calm Sea Day, Stretching Time & Sailing Toward the Seychelles
Today was another peaceful sea day as we continue our journey toward Mahé in the Seychelles. The clocks went forward again, which meant a slightly slower start — but honestly, it felt lovely. A slower morning is a gift when you lean into it.
When I made it up to the gym, I realised I’d struck gold: it was almost empty. Pure bliss. I enjoyed a long, luxurious stretch session, giving my body time to release and reset. These quiet pockets of space are one of my favourite parts of long sea days.
Afterwards, I headed to the pool deck for breakfast — my usual veggie juice, some fruit, and the soft warmth of the early morning sun. The Indian Ocean glittered beneath us, calm and endless.
Then it was back to make sure Joe was awake and ready for his PT session, which always sets him up for a good day.
Talks, Crossword Time & Planning for the Seychelles
I grabbed a coffee and settled into my morning rhythm of crossword and sudoku, then made my way to listen to Michael Scott’s talk about Mahé.
He spoke about the island’s history, culture, beaches, and practicalities — and even gave us restaurant recommendations for our overnight stay. His lectures truly add depth to every place we’re about to visit; they make arrival feel richer and more informed.
Joe and I then met for lunch in Compass Rose before he headed up to the pool for a relaxing afternoon of sunshine, swimming, and his audiobook. I took a walk around the deck and then joined a talk on Nelson Mandela, which was fascinating and deeply moving.
Visas, Tech Support & Gratefulness
Later, I visited the tech support team to get help printing out our visas — all part of the logistical side of a world cruise. A huge thank-you to Nena from MH Bland, who has been absolutely incredible in helping us prepare all of this pre-travel admin. She really has made this entire adventure seamless.
Seven Seas Society Reception
This evening was the Seven Seas Society Reception, and naturally — in true Cuby fashion — we were late. We missed the welcome drinks and canapés, but we did make it in time for the speeches, awards, and the entertainment: a fabulous ABBA medley performed by the Navigator production team. They were outstanding — joyful, energetic, and the perfect celebration of the voyage so far.
Dinner & A Final Show
We decided on dinner at the Italian restaurant tonight just for a little change. Joe wasn’t too keen on his fish dish, but the staff were wonderful and quickly brought him a fish soup instead, which made him very happy.
After a short rest in the room, we headed to the theatre for Phillip Browne’s final show before he leaves the ship. As always, he was phenomenal — powerful vocals, beautiful storytelling, and the kind of presence that fills the room effortlessly. Joe especially loved it, as he sung a lot of the old favourites which Joe could sing along to.
Now, as the ship gently carries us eastward under the night sky, we head back to our suite to rest, excited for tomorrow’s arrival in the Seychelles.
Daily Reflection:
Sea days remind me that slowing down is not the same as stopping —
it’s creating space for breath, curiosity, gratitude, and small joys that steady the heart.
Highlight of the Day:
✨ The ABBA medley at the Seven Seas Society reception — full of nostalgia, sparkle, and pure feel-good energy.
