Day 39 - A Gentle Sea Day, Restoring Energy & Grand Voyage Surprises
Today was our first day back at sea as we begin our journey toward Muscat, and it arrived at exactly the right time — a day to slow down, exhale, and let our bodies and minds settle after yesterday’s snorkelling drama.
Joe had not slept well after his frightening experience in the water, so the morning started slowly and quietly, giving him space to rest and recover.
I headed to the gym, which was thankfully almost empty — the perfect environment for a long, mindful stretch session. My body felt grateful for the movement after so many days of exploring and adventuring.
Afterwards, I picked up my usual veggie juice before heading back to shower and then settle into my favourite morning ritual:
crossword, sudoku, and a peaceful coffee in the library.
I checked in on Joe afterwards — and to my relief, he was awake, smiling, and feeling much better.
A Slow Afternoon of Recovery
We had lunch in Compass Rose, enjoying the calm, familiar rhythm of the restaurant. The staff greeted Joe with warm smiles — they had all been so concerned about him the night before, and were visibly relieved to see him back to himself again.
The afternoon unfolded exactly as it needed to:
reading, snoozing, and allowing ourselves to catch up on the sleep and energy we lost yesterday.
No rushing, no schedule — just stillness and softness.
Joe later decided to attend the Magic Show by Martin Shortland, which he thoroughly enjoyed. A little entertainment and laughter was just what he needed.
Dinner & Kindness at Compass Rose
We returned to Compass Rose for dinner, and with Joe fully recovered, he was able to savour the meal properly. The staff were so happy to see him back to his chatty, hungry, charming self — their kindness really touched us both.
After dinner, we both felt the pull of an early night so we can wake refreshed for tomorrow. The sea days are such gifts — pockets of time to rest within the whirl of adventure.
Grand Voyage Goodies
One of the day’s lovely surprises:
We received our Grand Voyage gifts — a smart backpack, a light waterproof jacket, and a baseball cap.
Joe is absolutely delighted with all of them. He loves a good bit of kit, especially when it looks official and adventurous!
Daily Reflection:
Rest is not a pause from the journey —
it is part of the journey.
Today reminded me how healing it can be to simply slow down and breathe.
Highlight of the Day:
✨ Seeing Joe fully recovered and smiling — and the genuine warmth from the Compass Rose staff, who were all so relieved to see him well again.
