Day 78 - Shades of Blue & Gentle Celebrations

Today was day two of our sea days, and we woke up to the sea wearing a completely different shade of blue. At Skip’s lecture this morning, he explained that this is because the sea is becoming shallower, and as we get closer to the Great Barrier Reef, the colour will continue to lighten. I love learning little details like this—it makes you appreciate the journey even more.

It was back to my usual morning routine:
gym, veggie juice, soaking up a few early sun rays, then showering and getting ready for the day. There is something incredibly grounding about starting the day this way, especially with nothing but sea on the horizon.

I then went to Skip’s lecture on The Great Barrier Reef, which was both interesting and educational. Knowing that we’re getting closer to one of the world’s natural wonders feels very special.

Before lunch, I popped into the library to do the crossword—another little ritual that anchors my days.

Joe, meanwhile, was up and off to the hairdresser. He came back sporting what can only be described as a Mr C Mohican! It definitely raised a smile.

Today, the Grand Voyage guests were invited to an early lunch in Compass Rose with the entertainment team. Joe isn’t usually a big fan of these lunches, but he came along—and I’m glad he did. We were sitting with his great friends Nina and Hersch, and we were joined by Peter and Celine from the dance part of the Navigator production team. Peter is from Bulgaria, and Celine is from Australia—and how lovely that her family actually joined the cruise in Darwin for the next ten days. It must be so special for the crew when that happens.

Lunch was lovely, and even though Joe said he hadn’t slept well and was feeling tired, he still enjoyed the company. After lunch, he went for a lie down to recharge before his favourite part of the day…

Trivia!
And today, Joe’s team won, scoring 14/15—which absolutely made his day.

I went to the early show at 6pm, where the amazing Dani sang a beautiful selection of songs with a bluesy, jazzy style. Her voice was rich, soulful, and a real joy to listen to.

Dinner tonight was at Sette Mari—Joe’s choice. I think he was missing his favourite waitress Marielle, who affectionately calls him her grandpa. The food was good, and I’m sure we’ll be back there again before the end of the trip.

Tomorrow, we arrive in Cooktown around lunchtime, and we’ll be tendering in from the ship—another new chapter of this beautiful journey.

🌿 Daily Reflection

Noticing the changing colours of the sea reminded me how subtle shifts often signal something extraordinary ahead. Slowing down enough to observe makes the journey just as meaningful as the destination.

Highlight of the Day

Joe’s delight at winning trivia—proof once again that a small victory, good company, and a bit of fun can turn an ordinary sea day into a great one.
